Hi, I found this site while searching for ways to get better internet services for people in the "third world". Looking around it seems like the people running it have some nice ideas for service provision in return for not just money. It's great.
I plan to try and get the free hosting plan first, and use it to promote the "Friendship VPS" idea, which I posted about on the General VPS discussion thread.I hope to find others who are into the idea and would like to help develop it. I'm happy to explain more ad infinitum, so just ask anything you like.
If we can get a VPS we can then use it as an example, and show how it could make a real difference to struggling communities all over the world, once they are able to control their own internet access. I've many friends who over the years have done a lot of work on sites, only to suddenly lose their content, email accounts and sometimes even the entire domain, just because the person they were relying on to do it all for them suddenly stopped.
If we can help people to learn how to manage the main crucial parts themselves, it will make a huge difference. It would have been entirely different for those friends of mine, if they had even just had the domains registered in their own names and under their own control.
All the best,
Andy
