Annayum Rasoolum is a 2013 Malayalam movie directed by Rajeev Ravi. In the backdrops of suburban Kochi city, it tells the love story of a couple from different religious backgrounds and the stories of people around them.
Rasool(Fahadh Faasil) is a Muslim youth who works as a taxi driver. Rasool falls in love with Anna(Andreah Jeremiah), a Latin Catholic girl who works in a textiles. The rest of the story deals with the problems which they have to face in their lives. The story is narrated by Ashley(Sunny Wayne), Rasool’s friend.
The movie is very much praised by the audience and critics for its realism. The cinematography, the background score, songs and editing were sincere to the script. The movie used live sound recording and natural lighting. One major complaint from the audience was that several small dialogues were not audible to them. The fact is that it happens in our real conversations also.
The movie is first directorial venture of cinematographer Rajeev Ravi. Ravi is renowned for his cinematography in Anurag Kashyap’s movies. Fahadh again proved that he is an extraordinary actor. Andrea’s character doesn’t demand much acting. The supporting cast also deserves applauds.
As a whole, Annayum Rasoolum is a sensible portrayal of lives of Kochi. The subplots help the movie to reach a wide domain than restricting it into a cliche love story. Many may find the subplots as unnecessary and boring. The slow and realistic screenplay and long two hours and fifty minutes duration may make audience detached. But those who love realistic movies will definitely love this movie.
