I plan to host a simple server for a project I'm working on (have an api so my project can track/respond to data/etc). At max, I would have a simple interface (maybe a template website?) for any users that may need some customization, etc.
GigaRocket's shared hosting plan best fits my needs. I don't see why I'd need a VPS at all -- especially since the shared hosting allows for a free SSL certificate, CPanel, an adequate specs (bandwidth, disk space).
When would I need a VPS, if at all? I know a VPS allows for more customization (a lot more) and you can host more than a website. However, with that, comes the price of providing your own well.. everything -- security (that's a major pain), setting everything up, etc. Do the consequences outweigh the benefits? Specifically for GigaRocket, I know that with a VPS you get a lot more storage and bandwidth.
Part of me says a VPS allows for more flexibility and benefits, but the other part of me says shared hosting provides all the backend stuff for you, and all you need to do is set up your website, databases, etc..
