Here is my New Business Logo and the start of branding for my site.
Above this post is an Opinion Poll, its very simple.
Do you like Blunder the Duck?
I've written a story with some important information below.
Please read, give me feed back, dont be scared!
BlunderDuck probably won't visit you in your dreams.
RFC :)
Hello all, I've been a little bit quiet on these here forums for a few days. I don't think I even posted any morning music today. I listened to who posted an alrightish tune that was way out of my usual musical tastes.
Good to try new things, which is what this post is all about.
Now, I'm just starting out on this mission and I'd like to document it. I have many reasons to do so, maybe the most important is keeping on track, getting feedback and advice and having something to look back at, for better or for worse.
First I'm going to tell you a short story of how I got here.
I was in bed, a bit pee'd off cause I could'nt leave the bed until recently. Im still not quite tap dancing yet, which is handy cause I'm doing this.
So, I've got my little nephew's EEEPC laptop, installed some Linux and Im thinking... "What am I going to do with my time?"
I hopped around IRC looking for a commuity to join, meet some people. Didn't work, IRC is dying and not as friendly as it used to be.
I thought I'll get a shell account, that'll be fun... That is not as easy as it once was, they're closing down.
I Googled "learn linux" and lots of other things and eventually stumbled upon Gigarocket.
I'm using the name Gigarocket in advance, Gigarank changes to Gigarocket in June this year.
I searched "Linux Hosting SSH access VPS" and wham! Jackpot!
Sceptical at first - until I read "Community" and "get free stuff for posting"
So, long story short, I started posting. I was aiming for a VPS (which I still havent got around to).
But being kinda grateful for the service and wanting to make some buddies around the globe, I managed to post some useful, fun and random stuff.
And c0nvct got his "free hosting account" and thought, hmmm, now what shall I do?
If I get a domain name, I could build a site!
What would the content be?
So, I'm still in a bed and I'm pretty skint, well bloody skint in fact. But hey, £6 quid.
I bought a domain name. I couldn't find a way to register via Gigarocket though and I've been meaning to ask; "So, guys... whats with the buying domain names? Are you determined not to make any money from me?"
Website content rules right? Only way to rank high.
So, I start thinking, skint, lets try make some cash without spending more than £100 to get going.
How the heck am I gonna do that, eh?
Well, I already got free hosting, a domain name, in fact I got two. A co.uk and a .com for a year for just £12.
I got them from 1&1, who took over Fasthosts here in Gloucester, UK some years back.
Why I did that I really don't know. They're a total ballache to navigate and it took an hour just to find where I changed the nameservers in their CP.
But enough 1&1 bashing for now.
I start looking at how I can get cheap stock to start selling, another story another time.
Now, I know that I can build a website. And make it pretty, I got those skills, it aint hard with Wordpress or lots of other solutions.
But...
Just because you build it does't mean they will come. It takes time, a lot of time. Another story, another time.
Whatever the stock is going to be, my ambition is a business and building my brand.
I didn't know I had this ambission until I joined the Gigarocket community - I knew I wanted to be self employed but that was it.
I want to build up a "Brand". I want to sell the brand one day, many more stories I'm sure.
But it takes money to do that, EBay and Amazon. Yes, another story another time!
I checked out these market places, I won't bore you with details here, but to start with...
EBay seems to make more financial sense right now. Amazon takes a little more time to get going, you have to pay £25 per month to have any chance, and yes its worth it but Im trying to make something from nothing right?
Won't it be cool if it works out? If not, I wasted some time but thats not my attitude.
Not much longer... I promise.
Ok, BlunderDuck!
WTF?
I really do not know where the hell the idea come from... I'm just wired this way and I thought at first - Thunder Chicken!
I remember! Serious, didn't think until now but Thunder Chicken was my old CB handle... OMG I was like 11. ! I forgot.
Someone was taking the micky and started calling me Blunder Duck - A man called Colin if I remember correctly, HA!
If this is successful, I must track him down and give him a gift!
So, I envision this duck. I'm thinking of Danger Mouse style.
A super hero duck, but accident prone. A bit of a wally. And I want to bring this character to life, - have some fun with it!
I admit, I cannot draw for Sh*t.
I emailed a couple of graphic people and didn't get much response, then our very own mentioned http://www.fiverr.com, I looked and found an Indian guy who said he would do a design in 3 days flat.
I give him the specs, and he said he'd do a commercial logo which "I" retain the copyright (VERY IMPORTANT) and he'd give "me the source files" (VERY IMPORTANT) all for the princely sum of... wait for it...
$15!
Skepical! Then I looked at others, all similar prices, some more some less. I liked this guys style and "spent time writing up specifications of what I wanted" (VERY IMPORTANT).
This guy hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned, This graphic was done in LESS than 3 days. All he was that concerned about was me not being happy! He said he would refund me or make changes if I didn't like it.
I was blown away by this guy's customer service and I will recommend him to anyone who likes his style of work. PM me or check out these forums for arty types or check http://www.fiverr.com.
You want me to shut up and just post the damn graphic right?
Ok, just to wrap here, I paid the graphics guy the same again money as a tip and gave him a 5 star review. I bigged him up to Demi-God like status and I will tell the world who designed Blunder's because it's the OPEN SOURCE WAY, people!
Give Credit where credits due.
I got plenty to write about, setting up and wholesalers and all the other stuff I gotta do (free or near as dammit). There is nothing to stop you doing the same, maybe this is going to help, if you can stay awake.
Finally, without futher ado, here is Blunder's the Duck aka BlunderDuck - Super Hero Extraordinaire!

RFC: Though you don't know what the products are yet... I'm interested in the thoughts of my peers here at Gigarocket - Remember, BRANDING, that's what this venture is aiming for and I'll be asking for more RFC's in the future. For now, what do you think of Blunder's?
Do you like him or want to punch him in the bill?
Be warned, he will punch you back ;)
Cheers for now peeps...
